Steven Poacher has joined the Roscommon senior football management team for 2021.
The Down native, who was part of James McCartan’s minor set-up this past season, will take up a coaching role with the primrose and blue for the upcoming campaign.
The Newry school teacher brings a wealth of experience to the table, having been part of Turlough O’Brien’s managerial ticket in Carlow from 2017 to 2019.
During that time, the Barrowsiders gained promotion from Division Four of the league and took the scalp of Kildare in the Leinster championship.
His most recent role was with the Down minors last year and he was previously involved with the county’s Under-21, including when they reached the All-Ireland final in 2009.
Manager Anthony Cunningham said in a statement on the Roscommon GAA website last night: “I am delighted to welcome Steven on board and we look forward to working with him to strengthen our team in 2021.”
Sport scientist/strength and conditioning specialist Gary Flannery will also be linking up the westerners. A native of Offaly, he will fill the role of a performance GDA.
The Rossies will be operating in Division One of the National League this year after bouncing straight back up from the second-tier in 2020.
However, the championship was a massive disappointment suffering a six-point defeat to Mayo in the Connacht semi-final last November.
