David Burke has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL) and will miss the remainder of the season.
The 2017 All-Ireland-winning captain and all-time championship appearance holder for Galway suffered the injury in training this past week, in news which was confirmed by Galway Bay FM Sport.
Burke’s last appearance was as a substitute in the recent 0-22 to 1-24 win over Clare in Group A of Division 1, and his absence lessens Henry Shefflin’s options heading into the championship.
Burke has been a key player for Galway for many years and holds the record for the most championship appearances in the county’s history.
He has won numerous titles with the Tribesmen, and All Stars in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
