Brendan Maher v St Thomas’ in 2020B
You couldn’t beat it with a broken stick. Actually, Maher could.
He later explained on a GPAโs Playersโ Voice podcast about his search for the broken hurley: โAfter I scored the point I got kind of carried away and I threw it over my shoulder into the open stand in the Gaelic Grounds.
โAfter the match, I thought I would really like to have that hurley but we could not find it and the club even contacted the Gaelic Grounds afterwards to see if it was found.
Brilliant angle for Brendan Maherโs โshintyโ point.

โSeveral weeks passed and I had given up on it when I got a letter from a young fellow in Gort and I read down through it. He said he was 12-years-old and that he was at the game where I scored the point with the broken hurley and that he had the hurley.
โI was there thinking, how am I going to ask him for it back?โ he laughed.
โI wrote a letter back and I told him I would send him a hurley and a few bits and his mother rang me, all apologetic, saying she never knew I wanted the hurley back.
โSo we arranged to meet but then the lockdown happened so they still have it but hopefully I will get it back at some stage during the summer.โ
