Ryan O’Dwyer says the backlash faced by Kilmacud Crokes and Shane Walsh is “making me sick”.
The former Dublin and Tipperary hurler claimed the media attention around the Stillorgan club “buying players is a million miles from the truth.”
O’Dwyer has previous experience with transfers having moved from his native club Cashel Kings Cormacs to Kilmacud Crokes in 2011, before switching to Liam Mellow’s last year.
Venting his thoughts on Twitter, O’Dwyer said: “What’s making me sick is the reaction to Shane Walsh playing for Kilmacud Crokes.
“The man is living and working in the Stillorgan area. He moved to Dublin, he picked the closest club where he lives and a club that has high expectations like himself. What is wrong with that?
“And also the absolute vomit that people and certain journalists spout about Crokes ‘buying’ players is a million miles from the truth.”
“Crokes are a great club and try to help anyone in it but Crokes don’t want to have a name for poaching players, certain clubs will but 100% not Crokes.
“The secret of Crokes’ success is not the players that join the club.
“The secret is the structures within the club. It is a club and promote hurling, football, camogie and ladies football the same.
“The coaching structures are in place and they have been for a while.
“They promote four codes but also make the sports attractive, this allows players to achieve their true potential retain their high numbers.
“I’d love a survey to be done to see how many ‘outsider’ players city clubs have.”
