Analysis

Player ratings: Dublin 3-23 Sligo 0-8

Conor Breslin does player ratings for the All-Ireland group stage clash between Dublin and Sligo at Breffni Park.

Sligo
Aidan Devaney

Was able to vary the kickouts but really struggled to find players due to the Dublin press. Tough day at the office. 5/10

Evan Lyons
Couldn’t get a hand on the Dublin forwards. Tried to create some scoring options but was caught with a number of poor hand passes. 5/10

Luke Nicholson
Had no answer to the presence of Con O’Callaghan inside. Not a day he’ll want to remember but gained great experience coming up against one of the best forwards in the country. 5/10

Darragh Cummins
Fantastic score on the sixth minute to level the match but tired in the second half when Colm Basquel found his rhythm. Subbed in the 50th minute. 5/10

Paul McNamara
One of many players who couldn’t stay with his man, with Niall Scully essentially having a free role to attack under no pressure. 5/10

Brian Cox
Failed to stop Sean Bugler and was pulled out of possession on a number of occasions which created space for Dublin. 5/10

Luke Towey
Was forced off with a hamstring injury in the first half as soon as the Dubs took control. 5/10

Cian Lally
Struggled in winning primary possession. Movement to assist his defenders and goalkeeper was non-existent. 5/10

Paul Kilcoyne
Perhaps had the toughest task of the day in marking James McCarthy. Never really featured. 5/10

Finnian Cawley
Allowed Lee Gannon too much space to dominate. Evident that he was not capable in following him for a full 70 minutes. 5/10

Sean Carrabine
Contributed well in sacrificing his role at 11 to come back and assist his defenders. Was one of very few players who consistently ran up and down the pitch but had no assistance when going forward. 6/10

Jack Lavin
A late call up to the team, he found it hard to break down the Dublin defence. Was subbed late in the second half. 5/10

Pat Spillane
Left it all out there on the field. Had Sligo’s only goal chance of the day but his shot just edged wide. 6/10

Alan Reilly
Was one of the players who stood up in Sligo’s game against Roscommon but unfortunately he rarely got a touch against Michael Fitzsimons. 5/10

Niall Murphy
Fundamental errors with his shot selection in the first half. Hardly got a touch in the second half due to defenders failing to win possession. 5/10

Subs: Mikey Gordon, Gerard O’Kelly Lynch, Mark Walsh, Patrick O’Connor, Keelan Cawley. 5/10
