Earlier in the week, Eddie Brennan — who scored 26 championship goals in the black and amber shirt — spoke about the talent of Eoin Cody, who is a nephew of Henry Shefflin.

“Yeah he’s a big powerful unit, and what a lot of people know is that there’s Shefflin blood there,” says Brennan.

“He reminds me a lot of Henry is a lot of his mannerisms and how he strikes the ball.

“But yeah, I remember talking to Jackie Tyrrell a few years ago when he marked him in his last county final with James Stephens.

“He went for him when they shook hands and gave him a rattle, but he bounced off him, and that was maybe two years ago.

“So he said ‘big, strong physical fella, able for whatever way you want it’ and what you’ve probably seen with Kilkenny a little bit the last day was aerial dominance again, and Eoin Cody showed that.

“He’ll deal with anything that comes in low and tasty in front of him, but he’s well able to fight for his ball, he’s well able to deal with lads who are stuck to you too.

“The performance was one of what you’d expect of a mature forwards, so it’s good for a guy of 20 to be performing like that.”
