Anthony Shelley believes that the appointment of Kieran Donaghy as senior manager would make Tipperary football sexy again.
Since winning the Munster title in dramatic circumstances in 2020, David Powerโs panel has been ripped apart and they have struggled to retain any momentum.
The Kilsheelan-Kilcash man stepped down after an unsuccessful run through the Tailteann Cup group phase where Meath and Down were much too good, before picking up a win against Waterford.
2006 Footballer of the Year Donaghy has been involved in the past with Galway hurlers and with the Armagh footballers over the past couple of seasons.
Shelley, who has been involved with Tipperary football for a number of years, was on Tippcast speaking about where to next for the county.
โThere would be different opinions within the football community and a lot of people would want to stay local,โ says Shelley.
โThere are a few good people, and I know Charlie McGeever has been involved there for a few years โ he would be a good appointment.
โNiall Fitzgerald did good work this year with the Under-20s; ultimately they lost, and we donโt want to be celebrating moral victories, but they were much improved considering that group had lost by 20 points at minor level and lost by just a point or two to Clare.
โClare then went on to put on a good performance against Kerry.
โMyself, I think if I was 18 or 19 years of ageโฆ Tipperary football, if you look at results in the last year or two and you see they way club championship is, itโs not sexy at all at the moment.
โI think we need an outside appointment just to make it sexy again.
โI would be thinking somebody like Kieran Donaghy where weโre saying weโll halve your travel.
โHeโs the one that comes to my head,โ adds Shane Brophy of the Nenagh Guardian,โ because heโs had a couple of years with Armagh, and maybe he thinks โitโs time to run my own ship hereโ and itโs half the travel as well.
โBut maybe youโre going down to Division Four. But them, I was thinking that Mickey Harte went to Louth in Division Four, Andy Moran who got Leitrim to a certain level but he generated a bit of enthusiasm there for a while. Tony McEntee is getting a great run out of Sligo at the moment.
โWhile there are drawbacks with Division Four, and youโve Oisin McConville with Wicklow as well, it does give you a chance to develop without the pressure being on youโre straight away.โ
Shelley adds: โEven though the results didnโt go our way this year, you have a really good bunch of players there.โ
