Shane and Michael are joined by Monaghan stalwart Dessie Mone to talk about the Ulster SFC clash with Tyrone, and much more.
Dessie Mone served Monaghan with distinction up until his decision to retire from inter-county duty at the end of the 2019 season.
The Clontibret O’Neill’s man knows star county forward Conor McManus as well as anyone, and talks about his development during this chat.
“That’s why you go to these matches, to see the likes of Conor McManus put over these extravagant points. It’s amazing how he does it.
“The Monaghan management did well over the league campaign by not playing him in a league of games.
“He came on against Donegal and Roscommon, and he made his first start against Mayo where you could see how eager he was.
“People wondered if they would do the same in championship but, Conor being Conor, he wants to play.
“He doesn’t want to be sitting and he knows he can last the game.
“The same with Karl O’Connell, another player putting his body on the line.
“Karl has his mojo back by the looks of it, you could see his pace and power.
“He was probing and winning free-kicks. It was very important.”
Mone also reveals who were the toughest players he came up against during a stellar career, and which has the biggest mouth.
The classy defender enjoyed the “breath of fresh air” provided by Ryan O’Toole during his championship debut against Tyrone, and the post-match interview.
Mone talks about how he dislocated his shoulder in recent days, and how it did not occur during a charity sky dive.
Stapleton puts Mone on the spot by asking which of the game’s great ball-strikers, David Clifford or McManus, would he trust most with a free out of the hands from distance.
