Shane and Michael review the football clash between Cork and Kerry and a penalty awarded to Paul Geaney for Sean Powter’s tackle.

Cork’s hopes of beating Kerry came to a shuddering halt once David Clifford buried a second-half penalty on Saturday evening.

It gave the Rebels too much of a hill to climb, and the decision came after Sean Powter hauled Paul Geaney to the ground.

The incident has led to much debate about whether it was a goalscoring opportunity, or whether there are enough red shirts in close vicinity to snuff out the Dingle man.

“How it’s a penalty is beyond me,” Cork boss John Cleary said afterwards.

“If it’s a goalscoring opportunity, Dan O’Mahony is straight behind him.

“It wasn’t to me a goalscoring opportunity. I’ve looked at the video, I couldn’t see it properly but when I looked at the video myself, it’s more than harsh.”

Shane Stapleton and Michael Verney debated the decision — click play above — on today’s show.

Cork lost by just two points in the end, and Steven Sherlock had a late goal chance to level which he blazed over the bar.
